Birding at the Pecos River Cabins in Pecos, NM - San Miguel County 3/6/14

Stopped by the Pecos River Cabins (PRC) the other day to visit with owner Kim Allen who gave me a great tour of the site with her property manager, Joan.

I arrived there at 1:30 so the birds were not that active, but the habitat is wonderful. Situated right next to the Pecos River PRC has large cottonwoods and a wide variety of both hardwood as well as evergreen trees and shrubs. Kim and Joan also have large flower gardens and a plethora of bird feeders!

The day I visited the list of birds included Evening Grosbeaks, both Black-capped and Mountain Chickadees, Red-winged Blackbirds, Dark-eyed Juncos, American Goldfinch, Pine Siskins, White-breasted Nuthatches to name a few.

Joan and Kim were telling me about long list of both nesting and migrating birds they have observed there - impressive! S

Stay tuned for more birding at PRC!
