White-winged Junco in backyard during snowstorm! 12-5-13

Front view of white-winged junco showing large bill and pale throat

Side profile showing pale throat and faint white wing bars

Another side profile. Grayer than slate-colored

S
slate-colored (foreground) and white-winged (rear) - my feeble attempt to show differences in size of bills.

Sat out in my blind during a snowstorm taking pics when much to my surprise this White-winged Junco (Junco hyemalis aikeni) showed up. This race of the Dark-eyed Junco is very rare in north central New Mexico.

I took pics of FIVE races of Dark-eyed Juncos - gray-headed, pink-sided, slate-colored, white-winged, and Oregon!
